1. Who we are
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of SecretWrite (the "Service"). In these Terms, "SecretWrite", "we", "us", and "our" refer to the provider of the Service.
Payments for paid plans and top-ups are processed by Stripe, which acts as the Merchant of Record for every purchase and is responsible for billing you and for collecting and remitting any applicable taxes.
Contact email: support@secretwrite.com.
2. Acceptance of these Terms
By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy and Refund Policy, which are incorporated by reference. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.
If you use the Service on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you are authorised to bind that organisation to these Terms.
3. Definitions
- "Service" means the SecretWrite website, applications, and related features, including the Humanizer, Detector, and Generator.
- "Account" means your registered user account.
- "Content" means any text or files you submit to the Service.
- "Output" means the text produced by the Service from your Content.
- "Subscription" means a paid plan that grants you a monthly word allowance ("Word Cap").
- "Free Allowance" means the free, non-renewing word balance described below.
4. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract to use the Service. The Service is not directed to, and may not be used by, anyone under 18.
You may not use the Service if you are barred from doing so under applicable law.
5. Your account
You must provide accurate information and keep your account credentials confidential. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
Authentication is provided through email magic links and Google sign-in. You must notify us promptly of any unauthorised use of your account.
6. The Service
SecretWrite helps you edit and improve text. The Service includes: a Humanizer that rewrites text; a Detector that estimates the likelihood that text reads as AI-generated; a Coach that highlights AI-sounding phrases; and a Generator that drafts text from a prompt.
New users may receive a one-time Free Allowance of 250 words credited to their account. The Free Allowance is granted once per user, does not renew, and is consumed like any paid word balance across the Humanizer, AI Detector, Paraphraser, Grammar tools and Summarizer, for pasted text only; it excludes file uploads, the Generator and the Coach.
Paid plans grant a monthly Word Cap. Every AI tool consumes words from your balance: the Humanizer, AI Detector, Coach, grammar issue-count and Summarizer count the words they read; the Generator, Paraphraser and Grammar correction count the larger of the words they read and the words they produce. Word Caps reset every month (also on annual plans) and unused words do not roll over. Optional one-time top-ups add words to your balance; top-up words are held separately from your monthly Word Cap, do not reset each period, and remain available, including after cancellation, until used or until 12 months after purchase. Top-ups require an active paid plan and are forfeited if a refund is granted.
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, and we may impose reasonable usage limits to protect the Service and other users.
7. Acceptable use
The Service is provided for legitimate purposes such as editing, improving, and learning from your own writing. You are solely responsible for how you use the Service and for ensuring that your use complies with all rules that apply to you, including the policies of your school, university, employer, or publisher, and with all applicable laws.
We do not condone, encourage, or endorse academic dishonesty, plagiarism, fraud, or any misrepresentation of authorship. You are responsible for determining whether your intended use is permitted in your context.
You represent and warrant that you own or have all necessary rights to the Content you submit, and that your Content and your use of the Output do not infringe the rights of any third party or violate any law.
You must not submit Content that contains the personal data of any third party, or any special categories of data (such as health, biometric, or other sensitive information).
- You must not use the Service for any unlawful, infringing, deceptive, or abusive purpose.
- You must not submit content that is illegal, defamatory, or that violates the rights of others.
- You must not attempt to access, extract, or reverse-engineer the Service's prompts, models, or underlying systems.
- You must not circumvent or interfere with rate limits, security, or anti-abuse measures, including the CAPTCHA.
- You must not resell, sublicense, or provide the Service to third parties except as expressly permitted.
- You must not use automated means to access the Service except through interfaces we provide.
8. Subscriptions, billing, and taxes
Paid plans and top-ups are sold through Stripe, which acts as the Merchant of Record for your purchase. Stripe is responsible for collecting and remitting applicable taxes.
Prices are shown exclusive of tax; the applicable tax is added at checkout by Stripe. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual) at the then-current price until you cancel.
You may cancel at any time. On cancellation, your plan will not renew, and you retain access until the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not provide refunds for the current or any past period, including for unused words. See our Refund Policy.
We may change prices or plans. We will give you reasonable advance notice of any price change that affects you, and the new price will apply from your next renewal. One-time top-ups are non-refundable.
If a payment fails or is reversed, we may suspend or downgrade your access until the amount due is resolved.
9. No refunds and right of withdrawal
All sales are final and we do not provide voluntary refunds, except where required by mandatory law.
Where you are a consumer in the European Union, you normally have a 14-day right to withdraw from a contract for digital services. By subscribing or purchasing a top-up, you expressly request that we begin providing the Service immediately and you acknowledge that, once performance begins, you lose your right of withdrawal. We capture this acknowledgement at checkout.
Nothing in these Terms removes any refund or withdrawal right that cannot be waived under the law that applies to you. Stripe, as payment processor and Merchant of Record, may independently process disputes, chargebacks, or refunds under card-network rules and applicable law. Full details are in our Refund Policy.
10. Intellectual property
As between you and us, you own your Content and the Output you generate. We do not claim ownership of your Content or Output.
We own all rights in the Service itself, including the software, models, prompts, design, and the SecretWrite name and marks. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service in accordance with these Terms. You grant us only the limited rights needed to process your Content in order to provide the Service to you.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE AND ALL OUTPUT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
We do not guarantee any particular result, and we do not guarantee that Output will pass, evade, or achieve any particular score with any detection tool. Results may vary. Outputs are generated using artificial intelligence and may contain errors, inaccuracies, or content that does not suit your purpose. You are responsible for reviewing and verifying Output before you use it.
SecretWrite is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Turnitin, GPTZero, Originality, Copyleaks, ZeroGPT, or any other detection provider. All product names and trademarks are the property of their respective owners and are used for identification only.
The Service does not provide legal, academic, professional, or other advice, and Output is not a substitute for professional judgement.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SecretWrite will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or opportunity, arising out of or relating to the Service.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the total amount you paid to us for the Service in the twelve (12) months immediately before the event giving rise to the claim.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including liability for fraud, wilful misconduct or gross negligence, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any non-waivable rights you have as a consumer.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless SecretWrite and the individuals and entities that operate it from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to your Content, your use of the Service, or your breach of these Terms or of any law or third-party right. This Section does not apply to the extent a claim results from our own wilful misconduct, or where such indemnity is not permitted against a consumer under applicable law.
14. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, in whole or in part, with or without notice, if you breach these Terms or the Acceptable Use section, if we suspect fraud or abuse, if required by law, or for non-payment.
We use rate limiting and a CAPTCHA to protect the Service against abuse. On termination, your right to use the Service ends; sections that by their nature should survive (including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification) will survive.
You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice, for example by email or through the Service. Changes take effect when posted unless stated otherwise, and your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Spain, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. If you are a consumer, you also benefit from the mandatory protections of the law of your country of residence, and nothing here deprives you of those protections.
Disputes will be subject to the competent courts of Spain, except that, if you are a consumer, you may bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence, and we may be required to do the same. You may also be entitled to use an out-of-court dispute resolution mechanism available in your country.
17. Miscellaneous
- Severability: if any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect.
- Entire agreement: these Terms, with the Privacy Policy and Refund Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
- No waiver: our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
- Assignment: we may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets; you may not assign them without our consent.
- Force majeure: we are not liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
- Language: these documents are provided in English; the English version prevails over any translation.
